Stephen R. Murphy, of Stoneham, formerly of Medford, March 28th. Husband of Jacquelyn (Catania) Murphy. Son of the late Paul and Irene (Ford) Murphy. Father of Danny Murphy. Brother of Brian Murphy of Melrose, Paul Murphy and his wife Nancy of Royalston and Joan Murphy of Melrose. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Steve graduated from Medford High School, Class of 1973 and then attended UMass Amherst. Upon graduating, Steve went on to have a successful 30 year career at New England Telephone which later became Verizon. He started his career as a customer service representative working his way up to a management position. He met many good friends along the way. Steve's many interests included crossword puzzles, books, streaming television shows, reading the Boston Globe and being outside in the sun. Most of all was his love for the sun and the ocean. He spent most of his time on hot summer days at Good Harbor beach in Gloucester and every year would vacation with his family on Wells Beach in Maine. Steve always put his family first. He was a devoted husband to his wife Jackie of 42 years and a loving father to his son Danny. His big personality will live on in the hearts and minds of those who knew and loved him. Relatives & friends are invited to attend visiting hours at the Breslin Funeral Home, 610 Pleasant St., Malden on Monday April 3rd from 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
