Francis Fain, of Mason's Island Road, Mystic, died Sunday afternoon at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London.
Mr. Fain was born April 7, 1917 the son of Henry and Anna Fain. He was a lifelong resident of Mystic, graduating from Stonington High School in 1934. He served in the US Navy during World War II.
He served as a band leader and was a member of the American Federation of Musicians for more than 60 years. He also served as President of the local Masonic Lodge for many years.
A career postal worker, Mr. Fain served as Postmaster in Mystic for several years before retiring in 1977.
He is survived by his children, William H. Fain of Ledyard and Carol Naszcuiniec of Midland, GA, 4 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 3 sisters, Delores Zappe of North Stonington, Mary Fain of Stonington, and Margaret Barber of Groton.
A Graveside Funeral Service will be conducted at Elm Grove Cemetery, Rte. 27, Mystic on Wednesday at 9:30am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation is private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Boy’s Town, Omaha NE 68154 (402-498-1111).
