David B. Rich, Sr., 82

David B. Rich, Sr., 82, of Norton died on Tuesday June 6, 2006 at The New England Sinai Hospital in Stoughton, MA. He was the beloved husband of the late Marion F. (Roy) Rich to whom he was married to for 54 years at the time of her death on October 26, 1996.
Born in Norton, Ma on July 9, 1923 he was a dear son of the late James and Bridget (Leone) Rich.
He was educated in Norton schools. He entered The United States Army Air Core in 1942 and served as a Private First Class. He was a member of the 83rd Fighter Squadron. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He was very proud to have served his country. While in the service he graduated from Indiana Central College, receiving a certificate in airplane mechanics and electrical. He went on to graduate from Wentworth Institute, receiving his electrical degree.
Mr. Rich worked at Wheaton College in Norton for 22 years retiring in 1988 as the Supervisor of the Electrical Department. He had also served as the Electrical Inspector for the Town of Norton from 1970 till recently retiring in 2004. He was also a former police officer for the Town of Norton.
He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton. He was a life member of the Norton VFW Post 8049 and the American Legion post 222 in Norton. He was also a member of the Attleboro Lodge of Elks 1014 and was an active member of the Municipal Electrical Inspectors Association of Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
David was truly dedicated to his family and to the Town of Norton. In 2005 he was one of several people to whom the annual town report was dedicated to for his over 50 years of service to the town.
In his spare time he took great pride in the maintenance of his yards. He was a lifelong resident of Norton
He is survived by his devoted children Susan E. Rich of Norton, David B. Rich, Jr. of Mashpee and Eugene Rich of San Francisco, California. His grandchildren David B. Rich III of Pinehurst, North Carolina and Elizabeth Koch of Hyannis. Also survived by his 3 great grandchildren and his special angel Jill Pierce of Raynham as well as several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late James Rich, Clarence P. Rich, Sr., Alec Rich, Sr., Elizabeth Rush, Nettina Rich and Angelina Ferrini.
His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Friday June 9th at 9:00 A.M. from The Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton followed by a mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, South Worcester St., Norton. Burial with military honors will follow in the Norton Center cemetery, Norton.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday June 8th from 4-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
