Obituary

SALEM - Thomas S. Meler, 91, husband of Irene (Tomkiewicz) Meler, of Salem, died Tuesday morning, June 6, 2006 at the Salem Hospital after being stricken at his home.

Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Ignacy & Maryanna (Akatyszewska) Meler.

Prior to his retirement, Mr. Meler was employed for 35 years by the General Electric Company, Lynn in the aircraft Division.

A lifelong resident of Salem, he was a communicant of the St. John The Baptist Church and a member of the Polish Falcons, Nest #188, of Salem. He was the recipient of the Legion of Honor, an award given by the Polish Falcons on a national level.

Besides his wife, with whom he shared 67 years of marriage, he is survived by one son & daughter-in-law, Thomas R. and Karen Meler of Beverly, 4 grandchildren, Christine Bruner of Virginia Beach, VA, Katherine Stanton of Haverhill, Allyson Shambo of Louisville, CO, Thomas M. Meler of Chandler, AZ, 4 great grandchildren, Grace, Abigail, Noah, & Morgen, 2 sisters, Melaine Czupryna and Irene Hojnowski of Salem and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Thaddeus Meler, Stanley Meler and Helen Manning.

His funeral service will be held Friday, June 9, 2006 at 11 am from the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem, followed by a funeral Mass at 12 at the St. John The Baptist Church Salem. Visiting hours are Thursday, 4 to 8 pm. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Burial is in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
