Martha Vitka died at her home early on March 14, 2023 following a long illness. Martha was raised in Winchester and spent her adult life in Cambridge, MA.
A talented artist and writer, Martha loved the ocean, cooking, photography, poetry, and most of all, dogs. She was an extraordinary companion and caretaker to her own rescue dogs, Molly, Krista, and Jack, and helped many others with their animals. Martha had a keen sense of humor. She was fiercely independent, tenacious, and brave in the face of whatever life threw at her. She was much loved.
Martha was pre-deceased by her parents, Mary E. Vitka and Joseph A. Vitka of Winchester and her brother-in-law George Yore. She is survived by her sister, Sarah Yore, of Tewksbury, MA; Susan Vitka and Peter Fox-Penner of Falls Church, VA; her beloved nieces Hannah and Rachel Yore and Emily Fox-Penner; and her long-time friend Philip Cowan.
