Lillian Niemiera, 94

Dateline: Mansfield, MA

Lillian (Bednarek) Niemiera, age 94, of Mansfield, MA, formerly of Perth Amboy, NJ, passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2023 at the Village at Willow Crossings in Mansfield. She was the beloved wife of the late Dr. Stephen R. Niemiera.

Born in West New York, NJ on May 14, 1928, she was a loving daughter of the late Karzmerz and Stella (Hencel) Bednarek.

Lillian grew up in Pompton Lakes, NJ and was the valedictorian of her graduating class at Pompton Lakes High School. She continued her studies, receiving a bachelor’s degree from New Jersey State Teachers College (Montclair) and a master’s degree from Columbia University’s Teachers College.

Prior to her marriage in 1961, she taught math and held guidance counselor positions in New Jersey and, for two years, at U.S. Air Force bases in Libya and Morocco. Additionally, she spent one year at Brown University on a National Science Foundation Grant.

A resident of Mansfield for the past ten years, Lillian was a communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Mansfield. Earlier, was an active member of St. Stephen’s Church in Perth Amboy, NJ. She was loved by all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughter Stephanie Shanley and her husband Edward of Attleboro. She was the cherished grandmother of John Shanley and William Shanley. She was the dear sister of Ann Lucyk of Pompton Lakes, NJ.

A funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited, will be celebrated on Friday, March 17th at 8:15 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt Street (Route 106) Mansfield.

Visiting hours are omitted and burial will take place privately in New Jersey.
