Obituary

TEWKSBURY: Gladys E. (Beare) Darby, age 80, a resident of Tewksbury for 54 years, died Monday, June 5, 2006 at Saints Memorial Medical Center in Lowell.
She was the wife of Vernon H. Darby, Sr., who died August 5, 1992.
Born in Syracuse, New York on February 18, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Archibald B. and Loretta C. (Andersen) Beare.
Mrs. Darby was raised in Syracuse and attended greater Syracuse schools.
Following her marriage on July 12, 1952, she moved to Tewksbury.
Mrs. Darby was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tewksbury and served on several church committees and organizations including the Philatheas Group, the Bertha Flanagan Scholarship Committee. In addition, she volunteered her cooking talents in preparation of the annual May Breakfast held at the church.
Mrs. Darby was an avid youth sports enthusiast and a dedicated fan at her grandchildren’s numerous sporting events.
She also enjoyed traveling with her family and friends.
Mrs. Darby is survived by one daughter; Kathy J. Jessup and her husband Rex of Jerome, Idaho; two sons; Vernon H. Darby, Jr. of Tewksbury and Scott B. Darby and his wife Elizabeth (MacLellan) of Tewksbury; one sister; Jane D. Saya and her husband Stanley of Syracuse, NY; one brother; Robert Beare and his wife Cathey of Houston, TX; five grandchildren; Lora K. and Janet E. Jessup both of Jerome, Idaho, Scott B. Darby, Jr., Rachel A. and Jane K. Darby all of Tewksbury; also many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Darby was the sister of the late Archibald E. Beare and Kathryn M. Beare.
Relatives and friends will be received Friday, June 9th from 5-8 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 10th at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Tewksbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
