Robert A. Pasternak, age 73, passed away on March 4, 2023 at Mercy Medical Center surrounded by his beloved sister and family. He was born on June 22, 1949 in Springfield, son of the late Alfred and Adele (Koczomb) Pasternak. Bob served in the National Guard. Known as one of the best athletes to ever come out of Chicopee, Bob was awarded the Lt. Bronislaw Stepczyk award and enshrined in the Chicopee Athletic Hall of Fame with the class of 2013. In his high school basketball career Bob helped lead Chicopee High to the 1967 Western Mass championship. That team would go on to play in the state tournament at the Boston Garden. During his baseball career, Bob became the first high school, legion or semi-pro player to hit a home run out of Veterans’ field in Greenfield. Bob was an All-WMass selection in both baseball and basketball. He enjoyed playing softball throughout his younger years while playing for Say When Café, Windsor Café and the Dana Lounge. Bob was an avid golfer and would play whenever he got the chance. Bob worked for the Chicopee Water Department for 32 ½ years, retiring in August of 2002. He is survived by his sister & best friend Nancy Chmura and her husband Larry of Chicopee; 2 nephews, Paul and Mark Chmura of Chicopee; his uncle Joseph Pasternak of Chicopee; and his cousins, Lisa Pasternak, Jay Pasternak and his wife Dawn and their daughter Mia, Noel Connor and her husband Tom and their son Jack; good friend Lisa Meserve and many other close friends who will miss him dearly. Calling hours will be held on Monday, March 13, 2023 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee. A Funeral Service will take place on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 from 9:00 – 10:30 AM at the funeral home followed by an In House Prayer Service at 10:30 AM.
