Obituary

Our dear mother Barbara Ellen Yahne age 90 passed away on February 22, 2023 at her home in Grandview, WA. She was a wonderful mother, grand-mother and great grandmother! Her smile always lit up every room. She was born a Cherokee Native American Indian in Maxwell Oklahoma on November 28, 1932 in her grand-parents home. In 1947 at the age of 15, she and her mother, father and 5 siblings all packed up and moved to Porterville, CA by car. The trip took 7 days. The family stopped 3 times a day to prepare meals right along the side of the road with pots, pans and any fire wood they could gather. They moved quite often along the western states following by the potato crops. Barbara met Bill Yahne, the love of her life in Prosser, Washington picking potatoes in 1949 and was married that same year on December 11, 1949 in Porterville, CA. In 1969 the couple moved back to Washington to raise their 4 beautiful children and to be closer to family. After her husband Bill retired in 1992, the couple were snowbirds and spent 15 years traveling down south in their fifth wheel RV. They loved that special time with family and friends! Barbara has been a resident of the lower valley for 72 years. She worked for 10 years at Holtzinger’s apple/fruit packing house in Prosser, WA. She was known to be the fastest packer on the floor, later becoming a supervisor.

Barbara is survived by her sons Allen Ray Yahne of Grandview, WA, Steven Dale Yahne and Debbie of Helena, MT, William Keith Yahne and Michelle of Tracy, CA and daughter Sheri Sparacino and Luciano of Yakima, WA, her brother Wendell McDaniel of Pleasant Grove, CA, brother-in-law Joe Yahne and Patty of Prosser, WA and numerous grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Chester Randolph and Ressie Armity McDaniel, brothers Carl McDaniel, Jimmie McDaniel, Ben McDaniel and her sister Delene Walls. She will be missed dearly by all.
