Alphee N. Laflamme, 89, of New Bedford died Monday June 5, 2006 peacefully at home with family and friends. He was the husband of the late Simonne B. (Nadeau) Laflamme.
Born in Black Lake, Quebec, Canada, the son of the late Edouard and Emilia (Lamontagne) Laflamme, he lived in New Bedford most of his life. Alphee's life was devoted to his family, his Church, and his profession.
A teacher by profession, his career spanned more than 30 years. He taught at the Campbell Elementary School and New Bedford High School, and was a professor of accounting and chairperson of the business department at UMass Dartmouth until his retirement. A student achievement award in his honor was given yearly to outstanding business students at the university.
He was a graduate of Providence College and earned advanced degrees at Bridgewater State College and Boston College School of Business.
During World War II, he served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a member of the Y.M.C.A. and served on the Board of Directors of the New Bedford Symphony. He was very active in St. Joseph-St. Therese Parish, where he served as a CCD teacher, accountant, Eucharistic minister, and school board member. He was the recipient of the Marian Medal from the Diocese of Fall River.
Survivors include a daughter, Diane L. Laflamme of Taunton; a sister, Bertha Parent of Red Deer, Alberta, Canada; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Albert, Edgar, Rollande, and Sr. Julienne Laflamme.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass in St. Joseph-St. Therese Church, Thursday at 10 AM, followed by burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visiting hours at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Wednesday 4-8 PM. Remembrances may be made to the Alphee N. Laflamme Scholarship Fund, P.O.
