In Taunton, Jean B. (Wilcox) Mello, age 95, passed peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her beloved family on February 24, 2023. For 75 years she was the devoted wife of John “Jack” Mello. She held many endearing names. That of Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother and GIGI. She was the beloved mother and mother in law to John (pre-deceased) & Melissa Mello, James & Beverly Mello, Jeffrey Mello, Jane & William LaPlante, Jerry Mello, and (pre-deceasded) Joel Mello. In addition to her husband and her children she was also the loving grandmother to; Jackson, Jennifer, Andrew, Amber, and (pre-deceased) Nina Mello, Mellissa LaPlante, Mike & Mark Laplante, Anthony Simmons, and Tom & David Correia. She was also the great grandmother of; Hayley & HannahMello, Evelyn & Roslyn Rowley, Piper Lipscomb, Aidan & Norah LaPlante, Cristian Correia & Elias Davis.
She was known and loved by many in the local Taunton and Dighton communities. She spent her life working alongside her husband Jack and her sons at Mello’s Auto on South Street until her retirement. She was an avid gardener, cook and boater. In her working years she would be at the front desk answering the customer calls as well as pumping gasoline during the day. You might also find her cooking breakfast on a hotplate in the garage for her family and any customer who happened to be sitting waiting for car repair.
While raised as an orphan herself, she cherished her family. Her husband, only daughter and her five sons, their families and their extended off springs up until her passing were always her passion and focus in life.
Funeral services are under the care of the O’Keefe Wade Funeral Home in Taunton. Services will be private at the request of the family.
