Obituary

John Daniel Gardner Moffat (JD)
December 3, 1976 – February 2, 2023

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved JD.

He is survived by his wife, Courtney Moffat and their son, Brian Moffat, who was the light of his life; his mother, Dianne Hinckley, of North Andover; his sisters, Rachel A. Moffat, of North Andover, and Tracy A. Keen and husband Robert, of Salem, NH; his father, John H. Moffat and his wife Ildiko, of Florida: step-siblings, Jennifer Burri, of Florida, and Robert Lavallee, of Maine: many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and devoted friends.

He was pre-deceased by his maternal grandparents, Dan and Mary Hinckley of Tewksbury, his paternal grandparents, John and Dorothy Moffat of Lawrence, and his best friend Brian Sirois of Lawrence.

A graduate of Lawrence High School he went on to obtain his Master Barber license and opened the North Andover Barber Shop. He was well known for his quick wit, and infectious smile, but most of all his charm. He was especially proud of his Irish heritage. JD will be remembered by many for his compassion, and empathy, always willing to help someone in need or an animal in distress.

JD was an avid reader with a passion for history. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures, although his greatest joy was spending time with his son Brian. JD enjoyed teaching Brian the art of fishing, respect for nature and instilling a love of history. JD had a great love and respect for the Merrimack River since childhood. He spent many summer days along its banks reflecting on its power and majestic beauty.

Family and friends will be received on Saturday, March 4th, from 2-4 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee Street, Tewksbury. At the request of his family, funeral services will be held at a later date. Donations honoring his memory may be made to the Clean River Project at www.cleanriverproject.org or by mail to Clean River Project, 1022 Riverside Drive, Methuen, MA 01844.
