Obituary

DRACUT   Dennis P. Penrose, 71, of Dracut, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at his home. He was the longtime companion of Elaine Hurley, with whom he shared the last 15 years.

     He was born in Lowell, on April 25,1951, and was a son of the late Fred, and the late Ida (Broudeur) Penrose.  He was educated in the Lowell area where he attended the local schools, and graduated from Lowell High School with the Class of 1970, where he was president of the business club.

       He relocated to Dracut in 1983 where he raised his family.  he worked as a heavy equipment operator for Draco Homes inc from 1971 until 2003, and more recently was employed as an underground utilities inspector for the town of Dracut for 17 years, retiring in 2020. He was a volunteer for the Dracut little league, and coach for the junior league along with summer travel teams.
     
        In his free time he enjoyed going to the beach, relaxing in the sun and traveling taking day trips all around New England. He also was part of “Saint Theresa Golf League” at Green Meadow Golf Club. He was a avid sports fan especially the Boston Bruins.

    In addition to Elaine, he is survived by his three children, Derek Penrose of Dracut, Mathew Penrose and his wife Debra of Dracut, Heather Penrose of Worcester along with his grandchildren Kendra and Ryan Penrose of Dracut. He is survived by his two siblings Frederick Penrose of Oklahoma, Leonard Penrose and his wife Virginia of Billerica. He is also survived by his former wife Patricia Penrose of Dracut. 

      On Wednesday, March 1, 2023 all are welcome to attend his calling hours from 4-7 at Mcdonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland street, Lowell, 978-458-6816. His funeral will begin on Thursday morning at 9 am at the funeral home followed by his funeral mass at 10 am at St. Francis Church, 115 Wheeler rd, Dracut. Burial will follow at St. Mary cemetery, 90 River rd, Tewksbury.
