Obituary

SALEM- Leo J. Richard, 82, husband of Agnes E. (Wilkinson) Richard, of Salem, died Saturday morning, August 10, 2002 in Salem Hospital following a long illness.

Born in Salem on August 12, 1919, he was the son of the late Albert and Madeline (Mallet) Richard.

Mr Richard was employed for 20 years by the City of Salem School Department, retiring in the early 1980's as head custodian at the Bentley School.

A Coast Guard Veteran of WWII and Korea, he served from 1940 until his retirement in 1961. He attained the rating of ADC and was a Chief Flight Engineer.

A lifelong resident of Salem, he was a member of the DAV and the VFW.

Besides his wife, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage, he is survived by three sons, Glen W. Dow of Salisbury, Leo J. Richard Jr., of Stoneham, Gary P. Richard of Gloucester, six grandchildren, Jeffrey C. Richard of Salem, Druscilla L. Richard of Beverly, Glen W. Dow Jr. of Salisbury, Deanna Eastman of Newburyport, Gary J. Richard of Richmond, VA, Eric P. Richard of Vienna, VA, one brother, Emile Richard of Salem, four sisters, Marie Kalinowsky of Salem, Rita Gibson of Billerica, Alice Elia of Reading, Lorraine Richard of Suncook, NH and many loving nieces, nephews, friends and relatives. He was the brother of the late Edward Richard, Joseph Richard, Edna Bettencourt and Eva Rawding.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2002 at 2pm at the Cape Ann Bible Church, 8 Thompson St., Gloucester, MA 01930. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be Wednesday, 6 to 8 pm at the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923 or the Cape Ann Bible Church, Gloucester. Directions to the Cape Ann Bible Church: Take Route 128 North to Exit #13, Wingaersheek Exit. At the end of the ramp, take a left on Concord St. and go under Route 128. Thompson Street will be on your left. There isa Jahovas Witness Meeting House on the corner of the street.
