Maurice L. Plante, 90, of Worcester died Friday, February 17th in St. Vincent Hospital. He is reunited, safely home, with his wife of 67 years, Pauline F. Shea who died this past September. He leaves three sons, Jeffrey T. and his wife, Nancy of Holden, Michael R. of Gig Harbor, WA, and Gregory M. of Dayville, CT; four brothers, Patrick Plante of Cohasset, Norbert Plante of Valencia, CA, Roger Plante of North Carolina, and Denis Plante of Gorham, ME; a sister, Jeannette Rioux of Biddeford Pool, ME; six grandchildren, Nicholas and his wife, Emily, Daniel, Nicole, Emily, Noelle and her husband, Calvin, and Jacob; four great grandchildren, Renee, Pierce, Liam, and Eleanor; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Daniel; his daughter, Lisa St. Martin; daughter-in-law, Kelly; brothers, Richard, Joseph, and Leo; and a sister, Madeline Gemme.
He was born in Biddeford, Maine the son of Norbert and Alice (Beaudet) Plante. Maurice was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps serving during the Korean Conflict. A devout Catholic, Maurice was a longtime member of Our Lady of the Angels Church.
Maurice worked for the Worcester Fire Department for 22 years, retiring as a Lieutenant due to a disability. As a young man, Maurice worked for his family’s fish and clam business. Although he moved away from Maine it always held a special place in his heart. Maurice was known to be a very social person, with a wicked sense of humor.
His funeral is Thursday, February 23rd with a Mass at 12:00 P.M. in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:30 until 11:30 a.m. in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Worcester Firefighters Scholarship Fund, 625 Chandler Street, Worcester, MA 01602, of which his grandson, Nicholas, was a proud recipient.
