Bernard J. “Bernie” Dolan, 59, of Mansfield died on Friday June 2, 2006 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Helene C. (Hurley) Dolan to whom he was wed to on September 19, 1970.
Born in Brockton, MA on November 23, 1946 he was a dear son of the Stephen and Alice (Stalliday) Dolan.
He grew up and was educated in Randolph schools. He was a 1964 graduate of Randolph High School. He served his country during the Vietnam Era in The United States Army. After serving from 1966 – 1968 he was discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Bernie was a Manager at Assist 2 Sell in Bellingham for the past 14 years. He had formerly served as a Sergeant on the Truro Police Department from 1975- 1980.
An active resident of Mansfield he was a member of the Mansfield Board of Selectmen for the past 2 ½ years and recently was named the Boards Chairman. He had also served as a member of the Mansfield Planning Board for 10 years and the Mansfield Capital Improvement Committee for 8 years. He had been involved with the Mansfield Little League for many years. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield.
Besides the wonderful times spent with his loving family including vacationing in New Hampshire he also enjoyed playing golf and reading. Bernie had made his home in Mansfield for the past 20 years.
In addition to his beloved wife of 35 years he is survived by his devoted and loving children Bernard J. “Bernie” Dolan, Jr. and his wife Dianna M. Dolan of Mansfield, Massachusetts State Trooper Christopher M. Dolan and his wife Jennifer T. Dolan of Westfield and Kelly A. Cason and her husband U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer Raymond K. Cason of Oxnard, California. His dear sisters Barbara Hamm of Brockton, Alice Devine and her husband William Devine of Canton, Cookie Devine and her husband Dennis Devine of Middleboro and Donna Bois and her husband Raymond Bois of Whitman. He was the brother of the late Stephen Dolan. He is also survived by his sister in law Gretchen Dolan of Canton as well as his cherished 10 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother in law of the late Patricia Dolan and Edgar Hamm.
His funeral with Military honors, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Wednesday June 7th at 9:30 A.M. from the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield followed by a mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:30 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will be private.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday June 6th from 4 - 8 P.M. at the funeral home.
