David C. Boyce, 84, of Derry, NH, died Saturday, June 3, 2006 in the Pleasant Valley Nursing Center, Derry. Mr. Boyce was born in Grasmere, NH on March 3, 1922, a son of the late Harold and Dorothy (Anderson) Boyce. He was a resident of Derry for most of his life. Mr. Boyce enlisted in the US Army during WWII, and served in many areas. He retired from the Army in 1961 as a Major and was a recipient of the Purple Heart and the Medal of Valor. He served with the Derry Police Dept. from 1966 -1986, retiring as a detective. He later served as Deputy Chief of Police in Chester, NH in the late 1980's. Following his time with the Chester Police Dept., he worked part time with the Derry Police Dept. as an evidence technician until 2002. Mr. Boyce was a communicant of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Derry. He was a man of greatest respect, honor and love for his family.
He is survived by two daughters, Maureen Boyce of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Kathleen Holmes of S. Yarmouth, MA, four grandchildren, his beloved sister, Dorothy Keith and her husband Arnold of Derry, and also by two nieces, Ellen and her husband John, and Kathleen, one nephew, James, and two great nephews, Matthew and Daniel. He was predeceased by his wife, Theresa (Travers) Boyce in 1979.
Calling hours were on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 from 5 – 8pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, June 7th at 10:00am in the St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Ave., Derry. The burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in E. Derry.
