Frederick J. Pilato Jr., 87, a lifelong resident of Lowell, died on Friday, February 9, 2023 with his family by his side. He was the widower of Shirley Pilato, his life long love, to whom he was married for 46 years before her passing in 2004.
Fred was born in Lowell on June 5, 1935, the son of the late Frederick Sr. and Mary (Decourcy) Pilato. He was educated in Lowell schools, graduating in 1950. He was a 2nd Class Petty Officer for the United States Navy Seabees and was honorably discharged in 1957.
Fred loved life and enjoyed spending time with his family and extended family. Having worked three jobs for most of his life, he was not one to stay idle. From guns and hunting in his younger days to cribbage, pool, and bingo later in life, he always kept busy. Fred was an honorable man and would help whenever and whomever he could. He will be welcomed by his deceased family and friends in Heaven.
He is survived by his children, Kim (Hall) Kaulbach of Hampstead, NH, Glenn Hall and his wife, Lisa of Lowell, Wayne Pilato of Lowell, Carol Malerbi and her husband, Jim of Hampstead, NH, Robin Pilato of Lowell and Cynthia Hall of PA as well as Sandra Houde, who was like a daughter, and her husband, Henry of Dracut. He also leaves a daughter in law, Frances Hall who was the wife of his late son, Gary. He was also the father of the late Wanda Cooper who recently passed away. He leaves a brother, Paul Pilato of Lowell and a sister, Gail Leedburg and her husband, Melvin of ME, 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

On Thursday, February 16, 2023, all are welcome to attend his calling hours from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. with a funeral service to be held at 11 a.m. at McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell, 978-458-6816.
A procession will follow for burial and military funeral honors at St. Joseph Cemetery.
