Norman L. Brantley, 61, of the Pinetta Community of Irwin County, Georgia, died Friday, June 2, 2006 at Emory University Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, June 5, 2006, at Central United Methodist Church with The Rev. Steve Waldorf and The Rev. B.J. Funk officiating. Interment will follow in Pinetta Cemetery, Irwin County. Visitation will be held Sunday from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mr. Brantley was born August 21, 1944 in Alamo, Georgia to the late Lester and Eloyce Maddox Brantley. He was a graduate of Armstrong State University and the University of Colorado School of Banking. He was Chief Executive Officer, South Georgia Division, of Planter’s First Banks. He was an active member of Central United Methodist Church where he served on various committees. Mr. Brantley was a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America and received the Silver Beaver Award. He was a Captain in the U.S. Army serving as a helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War where he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal. Mr. Brantley was a member of the Fitzgerald Rotary Club and American Legion Post 100. As Post Commander, he was instrumental in the recent erection of the Ocilla-Irwin County Veterans’ Memorial.
He is survived by his wife: Linda Mulkey Brantley of the Pinetta Community of Irwin County; Son: Blake (Kay) Brantley, Albany, Georgia; brother: Harold Brantley, Sumner, Georgia and 2 sisters: Faith Tyson, Tifton, Georgia and Mary Ann Bryan, Sparks, Georgia.
