Obituary

OXFORD – Barbara M. (Mahoney) Quaiel, 98, died Friday, February 3, 2023 in Notre Dame Healthcare Center, Worcester. Her husband, James H. Quaiel, died in 1971.

She leaves 3 children, Michael F. Quaiel and his wife Luann of Blue Ridge, GA, Susan M. Quaiel-Carrier and her husband Frank of Shrewsbury, and Timothy J. Quaiel of Oxford; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Kym Quaiel of Dudley; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Robert in 2021, and by her brothers William and Joseph Mahoney.

She was born on March 13, 1924 in Worcester, the daughter of M. Joseph and Julia (O’Callaghan) Mahoney and graduated from Commerce High School in 1941. She lived in Oxford for over 60 years.

Mrs. Quaiel was a customer service representative for Mass. Electric at its Webster, Southbridge and Worcester offices, retiring in 1989.

Barbara was a parishioner of Saint Roch’s Church. She liked crafts, reading and cross-country traveling with her 2 younger children.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Notre Dame Health Care for their compassionate care for Barbara during her stay with them.

Her funeral will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, February 16, in Saint Roch’s Church, 334 Main Street (please meet at the church). Burial will be in Saint John’s Cemetery, Worcester. Donations in her name may be made to Notre Dame Health Care, 555 Plantation St., Worcester, MA 01605. Arrangements are under the direction of Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, Webster.
