Obituary

Portland, Maine – Dennis Brian Brown, age 47, passed away on January 31st, 2023 at the Gosnell House in Scarborough, Maine surrounded by family. Dennis fought brain cancer for a little under a year, this month would have been 1 year since his diagnosis. Dennis was brought into this world in Portland, Maine, at Maine Medical Center, to the loving parents Donna (Brown) Wadsworth and Dennis Johnson. Dennis attended all Portland schools; from Jack Elementary, to King Middle and then to Portland High School where he graduated with the Class of 1995. Dennis was never married but lived with his long-term girlfriend Rebecca Corkum.
Dennis was an outstanding father to his one and only daughter Kira Brown of Portland, Maine. Dennis raised Kira with the help of his family and Kira was the apple of his eye since the day she was born. Kira and Dennis had a bond that was unbreakable! They shared a love that was undeniable, and to say that they were Best Friends would be an understatement.
Dennis worked at Barbra Foods for as long as we can remember. He loved it there and made many friends that later turned into family! After his career at Barbra Foods, he then worked at Motel 6 for many years. He was a night manager and basic maintenance man. After that adventure Dennis worked for Danforth Heights as a property manager. He loved what he did and enjoyed going to work every day. Other than these jobs, Dennis was a comedian and a professional poker player in his own mind! He was determined to make it to the world series of Poker one day but that day, unfortunately never came.
Dennis enjoyed family time most of all! He loved a good Texas Hold ‘em tournament where he was the life of the game! His witty remarks and his sense of humor could have the whole table in stitches the second he sat down. “Shuffle up and deal” was one of his favorite sayings. Dennis enjoyed pool and darts. He was a phenomenal pool player and some would say he was a pool shark. When it came to cards, any and all cards were right up his alley! Dennis could be found at the Amvets either playing cards or pulling pull tabs! Two of his favorite things in the world to do. He loved playing Sunday cards at the Amvets with family and friends. Dennis was a phenomenal artist but he didn’t share that with everyone! This was one of his secret talents. Dennis loved spending time with his nieces and nephews, he enjoyed remote control cars and the V.R. the kid’s showed him! He was very family orientated and loved with his whole heart!
Dennis is predeceased by his grandparents on both sides, and stepdad Robert Wadsworth.
Dennis is survived by his one and only daughter Kira Brown of Portland, ME; his mother Donna (Brown) Wadsworth; his father Dennis Johnson; his sister Tina Brown; his brother Tom Wadsworth and his baby sister Bobbie Jo Wadsworth. Dennis has two sisters on his father’s side. Jessica Schidzig and Jennifer Schidzig, Dennis leaves behind many nieces and nephews – Timothy, Joseph, Teagan, Abbie, Thomas, Maci, Madison, Jade and a great niece Arabella Marie. Dennis loved his family beyond measure and will leave behind tons of cousins, aunts and uncles and friends that became family over the years.
A celebration of life will be held at the one and only AMVETS Post 25 on Washington Ave in Portland, Maine, right where Dennis asked for it to be held! The celebration will start at 1pm and end at 5pm, then party on as Dennis would want! He wanted us all to have a big party and to remember him the way he was before he got sick.
In lieu of Flowers please bring a dish and some stories to share at the Celebration of Life! Dennis would have wanted us to have a cold one, laugh and talk and remember the good times!
