Maureen T. (Upton) Doherty, a longtime resident of both Hampton, New Hampshire and Deerfield, Florida and formerly of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at Pilgrim Rehabilitation Nursing Center in Peabody. She was 76 years of age.
Maureen was born in Boston on June 8, 1946, a daughter of the late Joseph Upton and Emily (Herring) Upton. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated at St. Mary's Parochial School and graduated from Charlestown High School. Maureen was a hairdresser for several years and owned Jack & Jill Hair Salon on Broadway in Arlington. While being a resident at Hampton Beach, she worked at Steve's Italian Sausage on the boulevard and could always be heard waiting on the customers at the window. During her spare time, Maureen enjoyed traveling and the beach at Hampton and Deerfield with a nice glass of wine. Most of all, Maureen cherished her time with her children and grandchildren.
Maureen is the devoted mother of Maureen "Sissy" Doherty and her partner Louis Mauro and Timothy P. Doherty. She is the loving Nana to Tayla Doherty, Sean Doherty and his husband Kyle, Kevin Doherty and his wife Amber and her great-granddaughter Summer Rose. She is the loving partner of 40 years of the late Jim Sullivan. She is the beloved sister of Blanche Demling, Ruth Capraro and the late Emily Lorino, Margie Fitzpatrick, Boston Firefighter Melvin "Mel" Upton, Herbert Upton, Joseph Upton, Charles Upton and Jocko Upton. She is the former wife of retired Somerville Police Officer Bernard Doherty. She is also survived by her many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Maureen's Funeral on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. Her burial will be private. Her visiting hours will be on Monday, February 6, 2023 from 4 to 7 P.M. in the funeral home.
