PRATT, Maryanne “Burkey” (Thomas) Of Wellesley Hills, MA, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend passed peacefully on January 26, 2023 at the age of 90. Burkey was born on December 2, 1932 in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, and was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Stanley E. Pratt, as well as her siblings Louise McGowan and Thomas (Tommy) Thomas. She is survived by her 4 children Thomas and Roxanne Pratt of Apopka, FL, Ginger and Chris McCloy of Bristol, RI, Cindy and Rob Jaczko of Wellesley Hills, MA, and Johanna Pratt Fitzgerald of Hopedale, MA. She will be particularly missed by her eight grandchildren, Nick, RJ, and Lily Anne Jaczko; Quinn, Mercedes, and Aimee Pratt; and Gavin and Kyle Fitzgerald.
Burkey was raised in Cornwells Heights, Bucks County, PA and enjoyed her summers in Beach Haven Long Beach Island, NJ. She graduated from the Baldwin School for Girls in Bryn Mawr, PA, and Pembroke College in Brown University in Providence, RI.
An active member of the community, Maryanne co-founded the House and Garden Club of Wellesley in 1958 and created the town institution of the annual Geranium Sale. She was very proud of the fact that the HGCW raises funds every year to send children to summer camp through the Wellesley Friendly Aid. She was a member of the Wellesley Junior Service League, a long standing volunteer at the Newton-Wellesley Hospital, and a member of the Wellesley Hills Congregational Church.
A long-time member of the Wellesley Country Club, she enjoyed playing tennis, and golfing and vacationing at their home in Boca Grande, FL. She also loved her travels with Stan on exceptional vacations around the world. Burkey will be remembered for her love of her family, never missing a day, rain nor snow to waive her grandchildren a good day as they boarded the school bus.
A memorial service will be held at the Wellesley Hills Congregational Church, 207 Washington St., Wellesley, MA 02481 on February 25, 2023 at 11am.
