Obituary

Anita Louise (Muise) Gienau, age 77, of Stonington died unexpectedly at Lawrence & Memorial hospital on January 27, 2023. She was born November 23, 1945, in New London to John C. and Jennie (Richards) Muise. She attended Stonington High School graduating with her high school diploma.
Anita grew up in the town of Mystic surrounded by her family and friends, but most closely to her sister Mary (Muise) Sullivan and her husband Jim L. Sullivan Jr.. Through the years, Anita was primarily a stay-at-home mother, but as her sons grew, worked as a bookkeeper, a grocery store clerk, tax preparer, a bank teller and in customer service. She was an avid Elvis fan, lighting up whenever she had an opportunity to relive her experience seeing him in concert. She successfully raised three boys supporting them in their endeavors which included Boy Scouts of America, saving them from their various boyhood injuries, and her youngest son’s competition roller skating career. When not supporting her sons, Anita enjoyed providing basket weaving and Theorem Painting classes. Later in life, her focus became going to the movie theater and jigsaw puzzles, which she shared with a few select friends. Additionally, she enjoyed quiet time while working on search and find online mystery games. She enjoyed her cats who loved her just as much in return.
Anita continued working in service beyond retirement at Big Y in Mystic and touched many lives through her work. She became the company representative grandmother who was kind and supportive of all the staff. She was a kind soul to so many and she will not soon be forgotten.
Anita is survived by her sons, Timothy and his wife Karen, Christopher and his wife Amy, Casey and his wife Michelle, her grandchildren Holly, Hannah, Trevor, Evan, and Nora, and her nephew James L. Sullivan III and his wife Jeannie. She was predeceased by her father and mother John C. Muise and Jennie (Richards) Muise, her brother John C. Muise Jr., her sister Mary Sullivan and her husband James L. Sullivan Jr.
The family will have a private burial at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Mystic. Anita’s memorial service will be at St. Patrick’s Church in Mystic, 10AM Saturday February 4th, 2023.
In lieu of flowers, donate to the Humane Society in Anita’s name.
