Obituary


Provincetown resident, Doreen C. Devlin, died on January 27, 2023, at Regal Care in Harwich, Ma where she had been residing since suffering a stroke.

Doreen was born November 17, 1946 in Boston and attended Holy Trinity Catholic School, Boston City Hospital School of Nursing, received her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from Boston College and her Master’s in Education from Cambridge College. Before moving to Provincetown, she worked as a Psychiatric Nurse for the JFK Children’s Hospital in Dorchester, Ma and as Head Nurse at the Greenery in Brookline, Ma.

She was an active member of the Provincetown community having originally moved to serve as the Town Nurse and Director of After School Children’s programs. Among her many accolades, she was a recipient of the Provincetown’s Citizen of the Year award for her ongoing work in the community. Her contributions including maintaining a weekly Help Our Women Support group for Chronically Ill patients for 25 years and her extensive work with the Provincetown AIDS Support group from its inception, offering client and End of Life counseling and volunteer training and opening the Foley House. In her later years, she started a Stomach By-Pass Support group and maintained a private practice, Courage to Change.

Doreen leaves behind, loving wife and partner of 32 years, Dianne Thomas, her sisters Roberta A. Devlin of Hull. Ma and Mary L. Corbett of Texas, and her brother Owen F. Devlin and his wife Virginia of Sharon, Ma along with 2 step daughters, a grandson and great grandson, and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

A Memorial Service will be held in Provincetown, Ma Spring of 2023. Additional information will be published in the Provincetown Banner at that time.
