Brian L. McSweeney, 74, of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Florida and Winchester, Massachusetts, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 26, 2023.
Brian was born March 20, 1948, the son of John and Harriett B. (Carr) McSweeney. He attended Winchester schools and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Maine at Orono. Brian obtained his professional engineering license and worked for Combustion Engineering, United Engineers and Stone and Webster. His profession of building power plants sent him for extended stays in Millsboro, Delaware, St. Louis, Missouri and New Brunswick, Canada.
Earlier in his life, Brian was an elected Town Meeting member in Winchester and a member of the Rotary Club of Winchester. In his spare time, Brian enjoyed sailing, baking, speaking Italian and visiting Italy, as he had worked at a power company there.
Brian is survived by his brother, John J. McSweeney, Jr. and his wife Catherine. He also leaves behind two treasured nieces, Christine and her husband Matthew Maddalo of Somerville, MA and Karen and her husband Mark Couture of Andover, MA., a grandniece, Logan, and three grandnephews Luke, Beau and Kyle.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for Visiting Hours at Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester, on Friday, February 3, from 5-7PM, and again on Saturday, February 4 at 9AM, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Eulalia’s Church, 50 Ridge St., Winchester, at 10AM. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester.
