Obituary

GILFORD ---- Ronald “Ron/Johnny/Uncle Ron” A. Johnson, 75, local land surveyor, left his last mark here on earth on January 17, 2023, at his home with his family by his side.

Ron was born in Laconia, NH, the son of the late Harold E. “Red” and Laurette (Bedard) Johnson. He proudly served his country in the US Navy as a Radioman and was honorably discharged in December of 1973.

Ron took with him a lot of knowledge that his wife often said should be downloaded before his passing. He knew most every area in Belknap County and occasionally did work in some surrounding counties. He loved what he did and did what he loved for 50 years. He started his business in 1973 under the name of Harold E. Johnson, Inc. to honor his father who was also a surveyor.

Throughout the years Ron loved the local lakes and spent much time during his youth with friends and family on Lake Winnisquam (for those of you who thought him to be quiet, WRONG) boating and sometimes getting into a little trouble with his friends. He later enjoyed boating on Lake Winnipesaukee with his family and friends. He also enjoyed many years with his family camping in the North Country and in Maine entertaining Shane and his cousins with “Three Finger Willie” stories by the fire. He loved the kids and he and Georgie always strived to ensure the kids would have fond memories of their childhood.

Ron will be missed by so many family members, friends, acquaintances, fellow surveyors, and lifetime clients. Shane will definitely miss his dad who was always searching for a new microbrewery in hopes that Shane would take him for a beer and pay for it too.

Ron is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Georgette “Georgie” (Poulin) Johnson; son, Shane Johnson; and numerous extended family, in-laws, and friends.

Ron and his family were humbled by the wonderful care and support of people from the Lakes Region Visiting Nurse Association. It allowed him to remain at home and be with his family. His family would also like to send thanks to Dr. Roberts and staff at Radiation Oncology Associates in Concord, Dr. Milchev at Laconia Clinic, and the staff at Concord Hospital; “Unless you need the hospital, we don’t think you can appreciate the staff enough for what they do.”

Ron’s family would also like to thank friends and family for being there to run errands for them when Ron could no longer go out and lend an ear for support. Special thanks to Ann & Art, Mary, and Karen.

There will be no calling hours.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

For those who wish, the family suggests memorial donations in Ron’s name be made to the Lakes Region Visiting Nurse Association, 186 Waukewan Street, Meredith, NH 03253.
