Obituary

We are saddened to announce the passing of Isabelle (Sordillo) Fortes, 82, of Wilmington, on January 13th. Isabelle passed away from cancer at home, surrounded by her loved ones.
Isabelle attended St. Augustine’s high school and volunteered at the Marion Manor, caring for the sick and elderly. Immediately out of high school, she entered the Carmelite Order of the Catholic Sisters, where she worshipped and trained as a Nurse. From there, she dedicated a lifetime to specializing in elderly care in Nursing Homes. A nurse and a mother, Isabelle had a heart of gold and an immense amount of tender loving care to share.
Isabelle was predeceased by her parents, Massimino and Catherine Sordillo, her loving husband, John Fortes, Sr., and her dear siblings: Edward Sordillo, Elizabeth (Sordillo) Crisman, Marguerite (Sordillo) Mitchell, and Catherine “Kay” (Sordillo) Keefe.
She is survived by her daughters, Mary Jo Fortes and Mishell Fortes Alberto, son-in-law, Danny Alberto, and her grandchildren, Joseph Fortes, Tatyana Torres, and Matteo Alberto, as well as her siblings: Ernest Sordillo, Eleanor Sordillo, and Josephine (Sordillo) Parker.
Isabelle lived a full and warm life filled with kindness. She will be lovingly remembered and sorely missed. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on January 25th at Gate of Heaven Parish in South Boston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
