Obituary

We lost an extraordinary man, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to cancer on January 18, 2023. Scott passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family.
Scott Clark Barton was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on January 31, 1947, to Lloyd Z. Barton and Marian B. (Clark) Barton.

Scott graduated from Technical High School, Springfield, MA, in 1965. He attended the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where he obtained his degree in Public Health. He enlisted in the Army, trained as an SP4 Medical Specialist and served in Germany during the Vietnam War. He spent his 43-year career in the employ of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Department of Mental Health in both Western Massachusetts and Westborough, MA until his retirement in 2016.

He is survived by his soulmate and love of his life, Lorraine (Rainie) Garrant Barton whom he married in 2014. Scott leaves his stepchildren Wayne Dills and his wife Christine Casterot of Brighton, MA, Michael Marchand of Webster, MA; Dominique Marchand of Westford, MA; and Ryan Marchand of Hudson, MA. He also leaves his beloved grandchildren Adrien Dills, Sebastian Dills, and Brady Iarussi. He is survived by his sister, Laurie (Barton) Conz and her husband, Gary of East Longmeadow, MA and his sister-in-law, Mary (Mulcahy) Barton, also of East Longmeadow, MA. He was also the beloved uncle of Jennifer and her husband David, Ryan and his wife Catherine, Amanda and her husband Peter, Nathan and his wife Julia and Kaitlin and her husband Matthew and his great nieces and nephews.

Scott is predeceased by his parents, Lloyd and Marian, and his brother, Craig Barton.
Scott was an avid outdoorsman. He loved camping, hiking, geocaching and kayaking. He was a faithful member of The Trustees, Mass Audubon Society and The National Parks Service. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in his name to The Trustees (thetrustees.org).

A Celebration of Life will be held for family and close friends in the near future. Details will be forthcoming.
