Catherine M. (Burns) Hickey, 83, of Mansfield formerly of Boston died on Saturday May 27, 2006 at the Bridgewater Nursing Home in Bridgewater, MA. She was the beloved wife of the late Nelson Hickey.
Born in the Dorchester section of Boston on January 19, 1923 she was a dear daughter of the late James and Winifred (Higgins) Burns.
Catherine was educated in Dorchester schools and was a graduate of St. Patrick’s Catholic School. Besides being a loving homemaker to her family she had also been employed as a Nurse’s Aide at nursing homes in Jamaica Plain.
She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield and was also a former communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Roxbury. She enjoyed shopping, dining out, maintaining her yard, traveling, to which she once visited her parents native Ireland, but especially she treasured the times spent with her family and baby sitting her grandchildren. She had lived in Mansfield since 1987 and was formerly of Boston.
She is survived by her devoted children Robert N. Hickey and his wife Gloria of Raynham, Catherine W. Guariglia and her husband Edmund of Bridgewater, Edward W. Hickey and his wife Mary of Norton, Ronald J. Hickey of Mansfield and the late Nelson R. Hickey. Her cherished 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren as well as her many nieces and nephews including Catherine W. Hurley of Holbrook whom she loved as a daughter. She was the dear sister of the late John Burns, James Burns, Rita Talbot and Helen Sammarco.
Her funeral mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Saturday June 3rd at 10:30 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held prior to the funeral mass beginning at 8:30 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield.
Following burial services at St. Mary’s Cemetery all are invited to back to St. Mary’s Parish Center (Located behind St. Mary’s Church) for a time of refreshment and fellowship.
