Obituary

Silveno ‘Sal’ Silva, 75, of Lowell, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2023, peacefully at his home after a brief illness with his loving family at his side. He was the beloved husband of Carole (Nobert) Silva with whom he shared over 50 years of marriage.

A son of the late John and the late Ceceilia (Bettencourt) Silva, he was born December 20, 1947, in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, and came to the United State at the age of 9 with his family. Settling in Lowell, he was educated in the Lowell public schools.

He made his home in the Highlands Section of the city and as a young man, worked as a jockey riding horses for about five years throughout the East Coast. Later he worked as an Industrial Spray Painter for over 40 years.

A communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, he was also a member of the Portuguese American Civic League, ‘The Reds Club’, and the Portuguese American Club, ‘The Blues Club’. Sal enjoyed gardening and cooking but fishing brought him the most joy, having fished in many places across the Country, including Alaska.

In addition to his loving wife, Carole, he is survived by his two children, Crys Schwed and her husband, Eric, of Merrimack, NH and Joe SIlva and his partner, Alicia Kendall, of Lowell; his grandchildren, DJ Talbot and his fiance, Desirae, of Merrimack, NH and Kyle Talbot of Merrimack, NH; his great grandchildren, Aria and Presley Talbot of Merrimack, NH, and Milah Schwed of Merrimack, NH; his siblings, Olimpio Silva of Lowell, Florence Da Silva of Lowell, Mary Estacio of Lowell, and Idelta Homen and her husband,Gerry, of Lowell; as well as his brothers in law, sisters in law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was predeceased by his brother Manny Silva.

You are invited to his calling hours from 4 until 8 p.m. on Monday, January 16, 2023. On Tuesday, His funeral will begin at 9 a.m. at the MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816. His funeral mass will be offered at St. Anthony’s Church, 893 Central St., Lowell at 10 a.m.. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.
