Obituary

Adelaide Helena (Lannan) Lockney, 89, passed away January 10, 2023, after a brief illness. A longtime resident of West Bridgewater and Abington, she was the wife of the late William Thomas Lockney Jr. She was previously married to the late Walter F. McCarthy.

Adelaide was the daughter of the late Adeline and Thomas Lannan of South Boston and Brockton. She was the sister of Margaret Barry, Eleanor Cole, Marion Egersheim and Rosemary Mockler, all deceased.
Addie’s love of family was her passion. She is the beloved mother of nine children: Kevin McCarthy (Billings, MT), Beverly Schaukoski (Taunton, MA), Christine Paiva (Taunton, MA), Debra Ferron and her husband John (West Bridgewater, MA), Maureen Miller and her husband John Noftall (West Bridgewater, MA) Stephen McCarthy (Westerly, RI), Kimberly Pierce and her husband Glenn (Abington, MA), William T. Lockney III and his wife Gabriela (Assonet, MA) and the late Joseph Lockney.
Adelaide also leaves behind fifteen grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren who all loving referred to her as Nana Banana. She was also a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews.

In the 1970’s and 80’s Adelaide worked at Standard Products in Whitman, MA. She was a devoted member of the widow and widowers group YANA (You Are Not Alone) at Holy Family Church in Rockland, MA where she helped others live through the loss of their loved ones. She was also faithful communicant of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in West Bridgewater, serving wherever she was needed. Adelaide was a Eucharistic Minister for the Church and provided Communion to those too ill to attend Mass. She was also a committed member of TOPS where she had many close friends.

Adelaide had a love for all people and displayed this love in her daily life. She also had a love for animals that could not be rivaled. She enjoyed crocheting and helped to create and distribute “Prayer Shawls” to the sick.
Adelaide was also an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots and Boston Celtics.

Visiting hours will be held at the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont St. Brockton on Tuesday January 17 from 4-7pm. The procession will gather at the funeral home on Wednesday at 9am for a funeral Mass at St. Ann Church, West Bridgewater at 10am.
