John A. Bohn, 87, of Westport, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side after a brief illness on Wednesday, January 11, 2023. He was the son of the late Dominic and Hilda (Pettey) Bohn and the husband of Rose M. (Haskell) Bohn.
Mr. Bohn was born in San Pedro, CA on July 7th 1935, and soon after, the young family returned to Westport, established their homestead where he lived for the remaining 77yrs of his life.
He graduated from the Welding program at New Bedford Vocational High School and served 4yrs in the US Navy as a steelworker/ fabricator petty officer 2nd class. He worked as a welder at ICI (Dighton) until 1970, when he started his successful welding business in Westport which ensued for the next 50yrs. His passion included tending to his animals, particularly his horses, and refurbishing Mustang cars.
Including his wife, survivors include a son: John D. Bohn of Charlotte, NC; a daughter: Linda M. Norcross of Westport; a brother: Ralph Bohn and his wife Billie Jean of IL; a sister: Elaine Benfield and her husband Jerry of NC; 2 grandchildren: Kyle Pavao and his wife Theresa of Westport and Brandon Norcross of Westport; 2 great grandchildren: Kimberly Mello and Carmen Pavao; and several nieces and nephews.
He was brother of the late Cynthia Grady.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at the Potter Funeral Home at 10:00 A.M.
Calling hours Monday 3 - 6 P.M.
Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
