Obituary

Joseph C. Agostino, age 82, passed away on Jan. 6, 2023 at Baystate Medical Center. He was born in Benedita (Alcobaça), Portugal on December 22, 1940, son of the late Joaquim and Maria Rainha (Cordairo) Agostinho. Joseph worked at Spaulding for 22 years before he opened up his own business in 1983. He was the owner and operator of A.G. Golf Club in West Springfield for many years before he retired. Joseph was a communicant of Holy Name Parish. He was a member of the Portuguese American Club in Chicopee, the Chicopee Elks #1849, the Moose Club #1849, the Westerly Yacht Club and the Knights of Columbus in West Springfield. He loved golfing, boating, billiards and most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by his loving wife Maria “Connie” (Augusto) Agostino of Chicopee; two sons, Mark C. Agostino of Chicopee and Kevin C. Agostino of Chicopee; three brothers, Acacio Agostinho and his wife Trinda of Ludlow, Paul Agostinho of Chicopee and James Agostinho and his wife Lilia of Miami; one sister Linda Joao and her husband Luis of Ludlow; four grandchildren, Acacio, Jayda, Makayla and Anthony. He is predeceased by his brother Leonel Agostinho. Calling hours will be held on the morning of the funeral, Saturday, January 14 from 9:00 – 11:00 AM at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee. An in-house prayer service will take place at 11:00 AM followed by a burial in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Chicopee Portuguese American Club Golf Scholarship Fund.
