Obituary

GILMANTON IRON WORKS ---- John ‘Eagle’ Wellman, 83, of Heath Drive, passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2022, at Concord Hospital in Laconia surrounded by his loving family.

Eagle was born on December 26, 1939, in Readsboro, VT, the son of Charles and Mary (Dix) Wellman. Despite having left Readsboro more than 60 years ago, he maintained a love and connection to Readsboro and all of his friends and family there.

John will always be remembered for his love of his family. His children have many memories of camping trips, travel, family game nights and will always treasure those special times. He liked to play cribbage, because he usually won, and let’s not forget his creative spelling in Scrabble.

He enjoyed watching his beloved Patriots for whom he has been a season ticket holder for years. He enjoyed watching anything involving someone chasing a ball around. He loved to travel and visited all of the US states. He went to Ireland and Scotland on several occasions in search of his roots. He also had a home in Florida, where he enjoyed being a snow bird for the past twenty years. All of his friends in Titusville will miss him and the wonderful times that they shared.

He loved his lake house, eagles and loons, the Highland Games and all things Scottish. He enjoyed watching the deer grow up and return year after year to graze by the lake. Most importantly, he enjoyed boating with his family on the lake and all of the great memories they shared.

Eagle is survived by his significant other, Gayle Maloney, his son Charles Wellman and his wife Sandra, his daughter Lisa Wellman-Ally and her husband Mohamed, his stepson William Werner and his wife Dorraine, his step daughter Julie Wing and her husband Mark, his grandchildren, Jennifer Wellman, Sarah Wellman, Kelley Wellman, Kathryn Lamothe, Sharaaz Ally, Cassidy Ally, Paige Werner, Cameron Wing, and Andrew Wing, and his great-grandchildren, Bryce Eastman, Lucien Eastman, Elias Lamothe, Jack Wellman, and Isla Ally. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sisters, Ida and Charlene. He was well-loved and will be missed dearly by his friends and family.

A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2023, in the family plot at Sadawga Cemetery, in Whitingham, VT.
