Obituary

HICKEY, Gerald “Jerry” W. of Stoughton, formerly of Dedham, passed away on January 8, 2023, surrounded by his family. Beloved father of Janelle M. Hickey and her husband Andrew M. Wood of Roslindale. Gerald is survived by his sister Elizabeth C. Bradley and her husband Richard of South Carolina, and brother Edward J. Hickey of Dedham. He is predeceased by his parents, Elizabeth P. (Connolly) and Gerald W. Hickey, brothers William T. O’Toole and Joseph P. O’Toole, and sisters-in-law Eileen O’Toole and Carol Hickey. He is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Gerald attended St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Jamaica Plain and worked at the Jack Young Company for many years. He was an active member of several drum and bugle corps, including Our Lady of Lourdes of Jamaica Plain, the Boston Crusaders, and the 27th Lancers, as a member, coach, teacher, and mentor. Later in life, Gerald attended countless cross-country and track meets, cheering on his daughter and her teammates while wearing his signature Canadian tuxedo. Gerald quietly helped his many friends, offering his time and support to whoever needed it. He was a gentle, spiritual soul and he will be greatly missed.

Visitation at the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St., Dedham on Thursday, January 12 from 4:00-7:30 p.m. followed by a funeral service in the funeral home beginning at 7:30 p.m. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment private.
