Obituary

SACO- Michael P. Harriman, age 69, passed away at his home on Jan. 7, 2023, after a long battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Mike was born in Bangor, Maine on December 11, 1953, a son of Roland and Mary (Case) Harriman.
Mike grew up in Winterport and then on the family farm in Unity where he developed his strong work ethic. After graduating from Mt. View High School in Thorndike, Maine, Mike went on to the University of Maine to earn a Bachelor of Science degree.
Mike enlisted in the Maine State Police in 1977 and graduated from the 35th Training Troop. His first field assignment was as a Trooper in Troop A (York County). In 1984 Mike was promoted to Detective, in 1988 to Sergeant, and in 1992 to Lieutenant; all assignments with the southern Criminal Investigation Division. Mike’s last assignment was as Director of the State Police Crime Laboratory in Augusta where he served from 1995 until his retirement in 2000. While at the lab Mike and his staff implemented numerous improvements including achieving national crime lab accreditation as well as the implementation of DNA testing capability. Mike enjoyed a reputation throughout Maine and New England for competence, professionalism, and getting things done.
After retiring from the State Police, Mike worked as Manager of Security at Southern Maine Healthcare where he used his experience to implement safety and security measures to keep staff, patients, and their families safe. He retired from SMHC in the fall of 2022 after 21 years of service.
Mike was predeceased by his parents, Roland and Elsie Harriman, and his sister Katherine Harriman. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Eileen (Sherlock) Harriman; his children, Katherine Harriman and her husband, Mike Bourke, Jarod Harriman and his wife, Jennifer (White) Harriman, step children Paige Meserve and Cody Meserve, his grandchildren, Elsa Johnson, Luke and Xander Bourke, Eden and Emma Harriman, his brother Dana Harriman and his wife, Sue, Dennis Harriman and his companion, Doris, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service with Maine State Police Honors will be held on Sunday, Jan. 15 at 2 PM at the Hollis Center Church, 388 Hollis Road (Rt. 202) in Hollis Center. Rev. Trent Boyd will officiate. Burial will be at a later date. Online condolence messages can be submitted at www.mainefuneral.com.
