Obituary

Francis "Frank" McCormick, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life suddenly on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at St. Anthony's Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida. He was 78 years of age.

Frank was born at home on 58 Decatur Street in Charlestown into a huge and loving family, in later years the family moved to Wallace Court which became the heart of the family for many years. In his early teens Frank started painting with his brothers, Donald and Jimmy, which instilled his lifelong drive and work ethic. He went on to work at MIT’s faculty dining club for 25 years where he worked his way up to chef. He was so proud that Fortune 500 executives and dignitaries would ask for his specific dishes at the club. The day his daughter, Lianna, was born he told his wife that he was going to stay home and raise his kids because that was what he had wanted to do with his life. He continued his painting business even in retirement at the age of 78; there isn’t a street in Charlestown he hasn’t worked on.

He loved feeding people, you could not visit him without having coffee and a pastry or a meal. He was the one who’d cook for 50 people at a time and kept the family holidays going. He loved taking cruises, spending time down St. Pete Beach sitting in the sun, going to his “offices” down Dunkin Donuts or Home Depot. He met the love of his life, Julianna, by chance when she showed up at his MIT kitchen to eat one day. It was love at first bite. Together for 43 years, married for 39 years of wedded bliss. More than anything he loved spending time with his wife doing carpentry and painting; if you needed a project done or advice Frank was there. He was proud of every one of his children and the adults they became. He enjoyed his time with his siblings and loved all of them. His favorite role in life soon became “Paw paw” to his granddaughters Gabby and Vivi. He also loved spending time on the deck with his dog Dunkin, drinking his coffee and sharing a honey dip with him.

Frank is the beloved husband of 39 years to Julianna (Harrington) McCormick. He is the devoted father of Francis R. McCormick, Christine Wells, Julie Ann McCormick, Janssen McCormick and his wife Kelly, and Lianna Ferrara and her husband Ryan. He is the loving Paw Paw of Gabriella and Vivian. He is the dear brother of Gerry McCormick, Joan O'Brien, Janet LaPorte, Carole McCormick, and the late James "Jimmy" McCormick, Anne Crilley, Mary Sheehan, Margaret "Peggy" O'Neill, Dorothy "Dotty" Duffy, Bobby McCormick, Paul McCormick, Donald McCormick, Arthur McCormick, and Joseph McCormick. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Frank's visiting hours on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 from 3 P.M. to 7 P.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. His burial will be private.
