He was the husband of Judith A. (Pierce) Cogswell who died in 1989. He is survived by his children: George H. Cogswell, III of Memphis, TN, Steve E. Cogswell and his wife Karen of Leicester, Timothy J. Cogswell and his wife Patricia of Pueblo, CO., Richard A. Cogswell and his fiancé Aaliyah of Memphis, TN, Kerry A. Collari and her husband Andrew of Leicester. He leaves 11 grandchildren: George H. George was born in Fitchburg, MA, son of the late George H. Sr. and Nannie M. (Ahola) Cogswell and graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester in 1956. Upon graduation he entered the Air National Guard, then served his country honorably as a United States Marine.
He held many professions throughout his life; most memorable is serving as a Leicester Police officer in the 1970’s and the proud owner of George H. Cogswell & Son’s woodworking for many years prior to his retirement.
George will forever be remembered as a prickly but generous man who would give you the shirt off his back, a fierce protector of family, lover of military history, animals and most specifically his grand dogs Lucy and Otis.

The family wishes to thank Webster Manor for their care and compassion during his stay. At his request, no services are planned at this time with burial at the convenience of the family in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Boston Children’s Hospital Trust, in remembrance of his daughter Nancy.
