Obituary

John H. Garvulenski, age 97, passed away on December 30, 2022 in Holyoke. He was born on March 7, 1925 in Easthampton, a son to Julia M. Pacocha and John H. Garvulenski and brother to Albert C. Garvulenski (deceased), and sister Shirley Saville and husband Albion Saville (deceased). John is survived by his daughter, Lois A. Roufogalis and son, Mark J. Garvulenski and his granddaughters Andrea Roufogalis and her husband James Sheldon and Amber Leonard and husband Jason, along with his great grandchildren Zoey and Lucas Leonard. John served in the US Army as a medic during WWII in the European Theater of Operations from 1943 - 1946. His life was rich in service to his community professionally and personally. He retired after 34 years with Hamilton Standard. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus Council 69 and a member of the American Legion Post 452. He served as a lector for more than 30 years at St. Anthony’s Church in Willimansett. John was a life member of the Chicopee Elks Lodge 1849, where he served for over 60 years on various Lodge committees including Nationality Night, Veterans activities at the Holyoke Soldiers Home and Bingo Night. As a member of the Lodge Trustees he was most proud and honored to serve as Exalted Ruler of the Chicopee Elks in 2007. He enjoyed a game of pool, a round of golf, and traveling with friends and his beloved wife Ruthie where they resided at Cape Cod. He was a cowboy at heart and loved riding his horses. His favorite hobby, however, was an evening of playing music on his guitar. John joins his beloved wife of over 75 years Ruth Garvulenski. “We completed a fantastic journey!” P.S. “My heart and all my love to the greatest family a man could possibly have.” Calling hours will be held on the morning of the funeral, Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2023 from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee followed by an in house Prayer Service at 11:00 AM.
