Obituary

Patricia “Patty” Langford Parrish, 91, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, with family and Team Patty by her side.

Graveside services will be held 2 PM, Thursday, January 5, 2023, at Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald, Georgia.

Mrs. Parrish was born April 16, 1931, in Waycross, Georgia, to the late Lafayette Pence “L.P.” and Lillian Mae (Bishop) Langford, Sr. She was a graduate of Waycross High School in Waycross, Georgia. She attended business school, earned a certificate in accounting, and worked as a bookkeeper for many years. She was Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Fitzgerald-Ben Hill County Library and was instrumental in establishing the new library. She was also active in the Central United Methodist Church in the early years of her life in Fitzgerald. She was treasurer for the South Georgia Native Plant and Wildflower Symposium and also served as president and treasurer of the Cherokee Garden Club of Fitzgerald. She was an avid birdwatcher, skilled gardener, the family genealogist, and enjoyed sewing, crafts, traveling, camping, and canoeing with her husband Frank and family.

She is survived by her son William F. Parrish, III (Laura) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; two grandchildren, Alexandria Parrish of Westminster, Colorado, and William F. “Franklin” Parrish IV of Fitzgerald, Georgia; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William F. “Frank” Parrish, Jr.; her daughter, Hillery Parrish; and all of her Langford siblings. Patty’s family extends their love and gratitude to her caregivers Jennifer Shelton, Evelyn McElroy, and Brittany Jackson, among others, who selflessly gave Patty comfort and security in her final years.
