Obituary

Mr. Harry A. Meserve, a lifetime resident of Medford for 90 years and beloved husband of the late Dorothy R. (Campbell) Meserve passed away peacefully at his home on December 14, 2022. He was 90 years old.

Born in Stoneham, Massachusetts, on October 3, 1932, he was the beloved son of the late George H., Jr. and Freida (Peaslee) Meserve. Harry was an Army Reservist during the Korean War. He served six years in the Medical Reserves and two years active duty in the 803rd Medical Core as a Sergeant.

Harry was a graduate of Northeastern University (BS, Class of 1954) and earned his Masters degree from Boston University. He was a high school science teacher for the town of Arlington, served as head of the Science Department for many years, and developed a medical technology course which many of his students credit with their choices and career successes in the sciences.

Harry was a man of many talents and interests. He was a musician, artist, photographer, carpenter, calligrapher, cartoonist, and a performance artist. He taught flute and loved playing his own compositions on the piano. Harry was a lover of all animals and worked in his garden alongside his wife. He was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Medford where he was very active in choir and church activities. His smile and sense of humor will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his loving daughters and sons-in-law: Debra and her husband Rev. Peter Beckwith of Medford, Linda and her husband Mario Gonzalez, Jr. of Lynn, Pamela D. Meserve of Medford, and Valerie and her husband James Leuchter of Center Barnstead, New Hampshire. Harry was brother to the late Robert L. and his surviving wife June Meserve of Kennebunk, ME. He leaves behind his grandchildren; Christina and her husband Duane Falk, Andrew and his wife Jill Beckwith, Amy and her husband Harrison Davey, Emmanuel Gonzalez, Justin Leuchter, and Jacqueline and her husband Michael Zimmer. He also is survived by his great-grandchildren; Samuel, Noah, Gabriel, Mia, Madeline, Michael, Lila Luna, Irelyn, Ceili, Jadyn, Joshua, Jace, Jeremy, Owen, Caleb along with many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, MA on Friday January 6th, 2023 from 4 to 8 PM. Harry's Celebration of Life Service will be held at the First Baptist Church, 29 Oakland Street, Medford on January 7th, 2023 at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. The service will also be live streamed on Zoom, Facebook, and YouTube. Interment will be held directly after the service at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford, MA. Collations will follow at the First Baptist Church in Medford, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations in Harry’s memory may be made to the First Baptist Church, 34 Oakland Street, Medford, MA 02155.
