Sofia P. (Pereira) Silva, 93, of Lowell, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2022, at Lowell General Hospital. She was the widow of the late Manuel N. Silva who died in 1995.
A daughter of the late Antonio Pereira and the late Sofia (Veiga) Pereira, she was born March 22, 1929, in Graciosa, Portugal, and was raised in that area. She relocated to the United States with her family, settling in Lowell where she made her home in the Back Central Street neighborhood.
A communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, she worked in the textile industry for Grace Shoe and had also worked in the area electronics industry. A skilled seamstress, Sofia enjoyed sewing and making clothing for friends and relatives. She was also a member of the Holy Ghost Society.
The mother of the late Helder Silva who died December 22, 2015, she is survived by her daughter in law, Maria Silva of Lowell; her grandchildren, Kevin Silva and his wife, Annie, of Lowell and Brian Silva of Lowell; as well as many nieces and nephews in the United States and in Portugal; and her best friend, Mary Lou. She was predeceased by her siblings in Portugal and the United States.
