Obituary

CHICOPEE – Michael Briket, 88, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Christmas Eve, Saturday, December 24, 2022. He passed into Eternal Life from his home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Mashoka, Belarus on September 1, 1934, a beloved son of the late Fedor and Evdokia (Kruk) Briket. He was raised and educated in Mashoka before immigrating to Canada, where he lived for a brief time. He later moved to Chicopee in 1958 where he resided he remainder of his life. He was employed as a Chrome Plater at Fountain Plating in Holyoke and had previously worked on local Chicopee farms and at the former Ludlow Mills. He served his country in the United States Army Reserves. During his leisure time, he enjoyed trying his luck playing poker at the local casinos. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and his many friends. He leaves his beloved wife, Valentina (Ilyasova) Briket; his dear sister, Olga Figura of Montreal, P.Q., Canada; his two cherished nieces, Irene Kipisz of Newnan, GA and Natalie Figura and her husband, Carmine Aceto, of Montreal; his two cherished nephews, Peter Figura of Montreal and Nick Briket of Texas; and his many dear cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Jeannine (Lanteigne) Briket; his loving daughter, Elizabeth M. “Liz” Carter; and his dear brother, Nick Briket. His Funeral will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2023 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 10:30 a.m.), followed by a Funeral Service at 12:30 p.m. at Saints Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church, 118 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104. His Burial will follow the Funeral Service at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends on Thursday, January 5, 2023 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. prior to his Funeral Service.
