Obituary

Eleanor M. Sawyer, Nunnie to most, passed peacefully in her sleep holding the hand of her niece Suzanne.

Eleanor was ahead of her time. A renaissance woman, if you will. Before she married and became a mom she travelled the world extensively. As a young woman she got the opportunity to become an ambassador for the SS United States along with 2 other friends and cruised to Europe and toured for 3 months. Nearly unheard of in those times. She skied the east coast as well as the Swiss Alps was also an avid tennis player. She could speak on any subject, mainly from experience. She also enjoyed the Boston Globe crossword before finishing her morning coffee.

She married Jackie Sawyer and later become mother to her 2 sons Christopher and Marc. They summered in Rockport and Eleanor would pack her bag and head down to Old Garden Beach at 8am and watch her boys sail. Then head home at 5 to cook dinner. She loved when her extended family and friends would descend upon the cottage and all hell would break loose. Those, I believe were her happiest times.

She was patient, private, funny, smart , stylish and extremely generous to charities big and small. Her faith guided her through her life and her sense of calm was what people were drawn to.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She was predeceased by her brothers Jake and Bud and her beloved sister Bobbie, who she tirelessly cared for before her untimely death at the age of 48. She was the loving aunt to many, but a mother figure to her sister’s children. She was cherished by all.

Eleanor will leave her residence at 329 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown on Saturday, December 31, 2022. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Eleanor’s Funeral Mass on Saturday, December 31, 2022 at 10 A.M. in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. Her burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. THERE ARE NO FUNERAL HOME VISITING HOURS.

In lieu of flowers, kindly make a memorial donation in Eleanor’s name to St. Francis De Sales Church Building Fund, 303 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown, Mass. 02129
