Obituary

SOUTH HADLEY – Theodore H. “Ted” Grant, 88, of South Hadley, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, December 21, 2022. He passed into Eternal Life at Holyoke Medical Center surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Randolph, Vermont on December 11, 1934, a beloved son of the late Wilson L. and Mary I. (Morrill) Grant. He was raised and educated in Worcester and moved to South Hadley in 1955. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War attaining the rank of Airman First Class and received the National Defense Service Medal. He was the owner and operator of the Becker Amusement Company in Ludlow. Ted was a Past President of the Western Mass Music Guild, the Director of the Amusement and Music Operations of America, Director of the Mass Coin Machine Association and Director of the Mass Gaming Association. He served as Past Exalted Ruler and was a Life Member of the Holyoke Lodge of Elks 902 and was a Past Commander and Chaplain of the American Legion Paper City Post 325 in Holyoke. He was a member of the Tigers Athletic Club and the Fairview Council 4044 Knights of Columbus, both in Chicopee, the Fish and Game Club in Chelsea, Vermont and the Friends of Western Mass Hospital in Westfield. Active in his Catholic faith, he was a communicant of Saint Patrick Church in South Hadley and was devoted to the Cursillo Community of the Diocese of Springfield. Above all, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, always giving of his time and love to his family and his many friends. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Lorraine A. (Labrie) Grant. They were married at Saint Patrick Church in South Hadley on October 12, 1957 and were blessed with over 65 years of happiness together. He also leaves his loving son, Michael T. Grant and his fiancée, Lynne Conroy, of East Hartford, CT; his three cherished granddaughters, Sara Grant, Stephanie Gardiner and her husband, Tim, and Megan Graefe and her husband, Julius; his cherished great granddaughter, Gweneviere Gardiner; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, numerous friends and extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved son, Gary G. Grant who was Called Home on November 4, 1999; his dear brother, Charles Grimshaw; his dear sister, Jane Dunn; and his dear sister in law, Irene Bledsoe and her husband, Deacon John Bledsoe. His Funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Saint Patrick Church, 30 Main Street, South Hadley, MA 01075. His Burial with United States Air Force Military Honors will follow the Mass at Notre Dame Cemetery, 63 Lyman Street, South Hadley, MA 01075. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, December 26, 2022 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The funeral home parking lot is located in the rear.
