LEICESTER: Allan B. Sylvester,85, of the Rochdale section of Leicester, died Tuesday, Dec. 20 at Rose Monahan Hospice in Worcester.
He leaves his best friend and partner, Margaret M. Williamson with whom he lived, his sons; William Sylvester and his wife Pamela of Leicester and Carl Sylvester and his wife Shari of Ware, his daughters; Barbara A. Carrigan and her husband Norman of Concord, NC, and Dawn Smith and her husband Jeff of Kannapolis, NC., his brother; Douglas Sylvester of Marlboro, 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a brother Michael Sylvester and a sister Joan Dygurt.
Allan was born in Worcester, the son of Harry and Eva (Griffin) Sylvester and later graduated from the former Classical High in 1956 and The Stockbridge School of Agriculture in 1958.
He worked in landscaping for several area companies including Fiske's Post Rd. Nursing, Tsuga Tree & Nursery, Hillcrest Country Club and Stoddard Garden for 20 years, retiring in 1999. He was a member and former sexton of Greenville Baptist Church, where he served as caretaker, director and clerk of Greenville Baptist Cemetery in Rochdale for over 30 years.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 27 at 11 a.m. in the MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St.,Leicester. A calling hour will precede the services from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday. Burial will follow in Greenville Baptist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Second Chance Animal Services, P.O. Box 136, E.Brookfield, MA. 01515.
