Obituary

Lloyd S. Nadell, 92, of Whitman, MA passed away peacefully on December 17, 2022 after a brief period of failing health.

Born in Weymouth, MA in 1930, he graduated from Weymouth High School in 1949 where he excelled in track and field.

Shortly after graduation he joined the US Navy, enlisting as a Cook on the Destroyer USS Ammen (DD-527) during the Korean Conflict, serving from 1950-1954. He and his shipmates received campaign ribbons for a European Tour (1952-1953) and a World Tour (1953-1954). At the time of his honorable discharge, he had received the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, and the Navy Occupation Service Medal (European Clasp). He was a proud US Navy Veteran.

After his military service, he went to work for New England Telephone and Telegraph, spending more than 30 years in the Bell System before retiring from NYNEX, a Regional Bell Operating Company, in 1988. He was a past President of the Telephone Pioneers of America, a charitable arm of the Bell System that worked hand in hand with the Special Olympics.

Lloyd spent his 34 years of retirement dabbling in real estate, delivering flowers, and golf course starter operations. He and his wife, Edith, could always be found watching their grandchildren’s sporting events, from the football, baseball, and softball fields to hockey rinks and basketball/wrestling gymnasiums. They truly loved to watch their sporting events, cheering and supporting them no matter if they won or lost. Family was his top priority.

Predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Edith T. (Havey) Nadell, Lloyd is survived by his 4 children, Carol A. (Nadell) Stygles and her husband Jack of Titusville, FL; David L. Nadell and his wife Laura of Whitman, MA; Donald R. Nadell of Lebanon, TN; and Richard E. Nadell and his wife Kathleen of Brockton, MA. He also leaves behind 5 grandchildren, Christopher Nadell, Richard S. Nadell, Matthew Nadell, Robert Nadell, and Sarah Nadell and 4 great grandchildren, Elinora (Nora) Nadell, Myles Nadell, Ada Cyril and Joshua Nadell.
