Edith (Domenech) Mejia, 89, of Mansfield formerly of Puerto Rico died on Thursday May 25, 2006 at Willow Crossing Assisted Living in Mansfield surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Alberto L. Mejia, MD to whom she was married to for 45 years at the time of his death in 1983.
Born in Isabela, Puerto Rico on September 24, 1916 she was a loving daughter of the late Fernando and Teresa (Esteves) Domenech.
She was educated in Puerto Rico and graduated from both The Colegio Puertorriqueno de Ninas School and The University of Puerto Rico with a B.A. in Humanities.
A homemaker, she enjoyed caring for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield. She had made her home in Mansfield for the past 2 years and had formerly lived in Puerto Rico for 87 years.
Edith is survived by her devoted daughters Sonia M. Walgreen and her husband John A. Walgreen of Mansfield and Sandra M. Garriga and her husband Ivan Garriga of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Her dear brother and sisters John, Luz, Maggie and Gloria. She is also survived by her cherished 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Tuesday May 30th at 10:30 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will be in Porta Coeli Cemetery, Bayamon, Puerto Rico.
