WEBSTER – Irene J. (Gabor) Starzec, 95, died Saturday, December 10, 2022 at home. Her husband of 70 years, Chester W. Starzec, died in 2019.
She leaves 2 sons, Paul D. Starzec and his wife Dorothy of Charlton and Peter W. Starzec of Webster; a grandchild, Erin Cothern; 2 sisters-in-law, Shirley Gabor and Frances Lavallee, both of Webster; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 6 brothers, Frank, Stephen, Carl, Louis, Ernest and Alexander Gabor and by 2 sisters, Mary Kroll and Rose Bounds.
She was born at home in Dudley on June 3, 1927, a daughter of Frank and Hermina (Susienka) Gabor and lived in Webster most of her life. She graduated from Bartlett High School in 1944.
Mrs. Starzec worked as a fuser and then as a supervisor at the former American Optical Company in Southbridge for 37 years.
Irene was a member of Saint Joseph Basilica. She was proud of her Slovakian heritage, traveled cross-country 3 times and loved reading. She is finally where she wanted to be, with her husband Chester.
The family would like to thank Avis Brady, Virginia Suarez and the special girls from Care Central Hospice for their love and support.
Her funeral will be held Thursday, December 15, from the Sitkowski, Malboeuf & Hickey Funeral Home, 340 School Street, with a Mass at 11:00 AM in Saint Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace. Visitation will be held from 9:15 to 10:30 AM in the funeral home prior to the mass.
